It is true when people say, that a person doesn’t realize what they have until it’s gone. I learned from this interview that I was very fortunate to have so many wonderful musical teachers. These teachers who want to work to create a love for the music, who choose to get to know their students as well as pushing us towards excellence music making. I learned that the family atmosphere they created for us in my high school helped me to grow as a person and leader. Being the section leader of the violas, I had to know every single person’s name and we shared timbits together as am ensemble. Having been a part of this kind warm and welcoming musical community I sometimes I wish I could return because there was a work ethic and acceptance that I have developed over the years through ensembles. I really do think that without teachers like Mr. Pinhorn, I wouldn’t have even pursued music. I find that a lot of the qualities that Mr. Pinhorn tried to advocate, helped me to become the listener and thinker that I am today. I always tried to appreciate everyone’s abilities, to support and teach those who need help. I always wanted to let everyone have a chance at a part, or have their say and I really think it’s because of the music program and the people who led it. Through this interview I also learned that I am a person who makes mistakes, just like any other person and that I have the ability to keep on going.
